Harris Communications, a look back in history

Harris Communications was located on Johnston Street, Fitzroy but as you can see from the picture what stood out from all the other radio shops of the day was he also sold shotguns.

Robert Harris, VK3XQ in the day came up with an ingenious advertising idea. He offered a FREE Shotgun with every base station radio sold. Many people failed to read his fine print: Provided you have the appropriate licences!

So the catch was you need a Amateur Radio Licence and a Victorian Firearms Licence to get the FREE Shotgun.

Everyone was talking about the advertisement for months.
