The ACMA NON-DATABASE

Since the introduction of the Australian Amateur Radio Class Licence by the ACMA, Amateur Radio callsigns are being removed from the RRL database and moved the new NON-DATABASE that only shows if a callsign has been allocated and what level of licence it is issued to.

BULLSHIT Privacy concerns were the excuse given for having no details on the new NON-DATABASE. Not even a first name is on this poor excuse dreamed up by the ACMA.

Here is where this becomes a problem for many Amateurs that use logging software, most of which scrapped the RRL database to fill in most of the fields when a callsign was entered. This is no longer possible unless you pay QRZ $55 a year and HOPE that Australian Amateurs have opted in to QRZ.

I for one use logging software to run the Welfare Net and up until now when I entered the callsign into the software it would show me the operator’s name, making it possible for me to give a more professional and personal on air response.

What is so secret about an operator’s FIRST NAME, this PRIVACY GARBAGE is because we always use our callsign and first name on air anyway.

As a Licensed and registered Australian Amateur, I believe the ACMC setup was very necessary for fallow Amateurs to verify call signs (as self POLICING), also there was, when the licence renewal was due, IT WAS THE OPPERATORS choice or request to have or not to have his/her licence information for access.
As for VK3GS it’s readily available on QRZ and other sites, in my case I’V chosen to only provide full name, town location (not actual address) and my email to logged in Amateurs.
If ACMA has any NATIONAL SECURITY INTEREST they need to reinstate the data base system ASAP.
