Introducing MagicPTT

MagicPTT is an internet-based Push-To-Talk communications platform that provides an easy way for people to communicate using their smartphones, computers and compatible devices.

Unlike traditional Amateur Radio, MagicPTT does not require an operator to hold an Amateur Radio licence simply to use the platform. This makes it accessible to licensed Amateur Radio operators and unlicensed users alike, providing an opportunity for people who are interested in radio communications to get involved.

MagicPTT uses rooms, also known as “shacks,” to organise communications. These shacks can be created for different interests, groups or activities, allowing users to join conversations that are relevant to them.

There are also Amateur Radio-only shacks, providing licensed operators with spaces specifically intended for Amateur Radio communications. At the same time, open shacks are available where licensed and unlicensed users can communicate together.

This provides an interesting bridge between the traditional Amateur Radio community and people who may simply have an interest in Push-To-Talk communications but do not hold an Amateur Radio licence.

For Amateur Radio operators, MagicPTT can also provide another way of staying connected when they are away from their radio equipment or outside the coverage area of their local RF systems.

For newcomers, it can be a simple way to experience Push-To-Talk communications and discover the wider world of radio communications without needing to immediately invest in radio equipment.

MagicPTT is therefore not intended to replace traditional Amateur Radio. Rather, it is another communications tool that can bring people together through Push-To-Talk technology, with separate spaces available for general users and licensed Amateur Radio operators.
